Swindon Taekwondo Members Start 2025 with Umpire & Referee Training
Phoenix Martial Arts in Swindon kicked off 2025 with a focus on skill-building, hosting a comprehensive Umpire & Referee training session for its members. Held locally on January 6th, the course welcomed six new umpires alongside two experienced referees who attended as a refresher.
Led by Chief Instructor John Newman, a 5th Dan black belt with extensive experience as a competitor and referee, the training was provided free of charge as a benefit for members ready to expand their martial arts expertise. The course covered key aspects, including:
- Understanding the structure and rules of competitions.
- Responsibilities of umpires and referees in ensuring fairness and safety.
- Techniques for scoring and judging with accuracy.
The new umpires will apply their skills in upcoming tournaments, where they will be observed across multiple events before achieving full qualification.
This initiative highlights Phoenix Martial Arts’ commitment to fostering growth and development among its members, both on and off the mats. By gaining these additional qualifications, members are not only enhancing their martial arts journey but also contributing to the sport by supporting future events.
